ok, Hitchcock used to be in all his movies as the guy reading the newspaper, Scorrese gets his family members in (in goodfellas its his mum cooking). Lucas references his first film THX-1138 in about everything he does (ie Indianna Jones last crusade, its the planes licence no). Cronerburg does some really clever in jokes ( like in Crash with the Joint from a Joint)

The Coens have started putting flying dogs and bowling balls in every film they make.

Kevin Smith-

1)Always appears in his own movie as Silent Bob.
2)Always has Silent Bob and Stoner Jay appear in every one of his movies.
3)Silent Bob ALWAYS say exactly one sentence in the whole movie.
4)Every Kevin Smith movie has a refrence back to the one before it. This is acctually really interesting. For instance...

1)In Mallrats when Brody an TJ go to that huge Thrift Store, TJ picks up a cap that says "CLERKS" on it.

2)In Clerks a girl dyiesin a swimmingpool by having an annuerysm while she swims. And in Mallrats, the movie begins by this girl telling her boyfriend the same excact thing, that a friend of hers died like that.

3)In Mallrats, Silent Bob dresses up like Bat-Man and swings from a stage set to dissemble the stage by pulling one pit out that would bring the whoe thing down. IN DOGMA, when everyone is on the train, Stoner Jay is talking to that woman (the main character, dambed if i can remember her name), and he's telling her about how they did that.

I can't really think of anything in Chasing Amy, I only saw that once.

Also Kevin Smith always has Brian O' Hollaren, in all his movies. he was the main star in CLERKS, but now plays tiny un-noticible characters in Smiths movie. You might not see him but he's there.

Dude... I don't want to get started on all the ViewAskew in-movie references, there's too many to talk about!!

The thing about Brian O'Halloran is that he always plays a "Hick" family member... (ie. there all brothers - because he "looks" the same)

Dante Hicks, Gil Hicks, Glen, Hicks, Grant Hicks... and I've heard that in Kevin Smith's 5th movied he'll be playing Dante (again)


The reference with Chasing Amy.. (shit man I gonna sound like a geek)

in Clerks there was a girl (Heather) who came into store when Dante is talking to Rick Derris, then she goes off with him to the beach... well that character is the sister of the main character in Chasing Amy (Alyssa Jones)

by the way she also had weird sex with Rick Derris (I think every girl in Kevin Smith movies have fucked him)

The other references... the comic book itself (about Bluntman & Chronic... exactly what they did in Mallrats)
oh and they also talk about the swimming pool death!

The Coens also always have a dream sequence in their films (they wrote one into Fargo involving Marge and an Indian, but it got cut) fat men in all their films.

Personally, I like to reference one aspect of my own personal life in every film I make (for example, in my last film, my characters address is the same as the house I moved out a year ago).

And THAT is one of the other million reasons to love film!

The two window cleaners in The Matrix were actually the Wachokskis (sp?). The two guys who directed the film.

In Tin Cup, with Kevin Costner, when the two grandparents approach Simms (Don Jonson)with their grandson for an autograph, these three are all Costners! haven't found out if they're actually relations to Kev. Anyone know?
